A Transformation of an existing school building from the 1970s into a new 7-9 elementary school for 350 students. The existing facility needed a total refurbishment to meet the contemporary standards for accessibility, ventilation and pedagocical purposes. The project involved some repair work to existing structures, refinishing of external surfaces and generally revealing parts of the original building that had been covered over by later renovations. The existing flat roof was replaced with a new gable roof structure to shelter the existing building from the harsh nordic climate. The existing detailing in the exterior and interior spaces was preserved and the new elements were adapted to the existing structures.
