Soldier´s House
Client: Private
Duration: Ongoing
Size: 100 m2
A refurbishment of a traditional post-war villa with extension in Finland. The "soldier´s house" is a distinct typology of single-family houses that became popular in Finland during the post-World War II era, especially in the 1940s and 1950s. The name "rintamamiestalo" refers to homes built for returning soldiers after the war, often located in suburban or rural areas. It is a modest, practical house typology that reflects Finland's post-war era of rebuilding and self-reliance. With its simple wooden construction, gabled roof, and functional layout, it remains an iconic part of Finnish housing history. The existing villa is transformed with respect to the preserved historical elements of the typical post-war house.
