Econef Children’s Center is an ongoing project and a collaboration with Asante Architecture & Design, Architects Without Borders, Engineers Without Borders and Econef, a Swedish-Tanzanian NGO that aims to improve the standard of living for orphans in the Arusha area. The existing orphanage is located in Jua Kali, outside Arusha in Northern Tanzania. The property for the new Children’s Center lies at the foot of mount Kilmanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain.

The aim of the Baobab House project was to develope a sustainable house typology that is adapted to the local climatical, cultural and economical conditions in a northern Tanzanian context. The construction work for the first prototype house was finished in March 2014 and is now used as accommodation during the construction of the new Children's center.

The project can be followed on the Econef blog.
